5 Fandom Friday: Fandoms I Couldn’t Get Into

It’s Friday! I made it, I trudged through grant applications, chased down lawyers for interviews and wrote handfuls of essays on myself and my story. And today I get to relax, after posting this I plan on going home, drinking tea and reading the day away. I want to give a quick thanks to all of those on Twitter who have been voting in my polls for Macabre Mondays. Next weeks post I will tell you all about one of my favorite haunted spots in my city. And a bit about what makes Victoria one of the most haunted places in British Columbia, and possibly Canada – if I’m not mistaken. If you don’t already follow me on twitter you can find all of that info on my About page!

The Hobbit Movies – While I loved the book, I just could not get through even the first one! And as a Tolkien fan, and having the Hobbit as probably one of the first traditional fantasy books I ever read, this was very disappointing to me. However I am stubborn and probably will try at least once a year to watch them.

Arrested Development – I have seen most of this show. I do not like most of this show. While it has some moments that definitely do make me giggle, I just could care less about the characters. So when Netflix came out of left field with the new season, I just let everyone watch and gush and then I watched Buffy again.

The Walking Dead – Now I used to watch this. And I’m not sure my exact reasoning behind my falling out with this show. It could be because it was a show I watched with an ex-partner every week. It could be because I fell behind. It could also be the fact that it was the same story every season, every week, and I got bored. I felt no connections with these characters, I just didn’t care abot them. But yes, Daryl is sexy – because Norman Reedus is sexy. But if I need a fix I would much rather watch The Boondock Saints (the original one, don’t even get me started on the sequel)

Agent’s of S.H.I.E.L.D. (or any other Marvel Show) – I wanted to like this, I wanted to watch it. I love the Marvel films. But I’m not as invested in the Marvel Universe as I am DC. I’m a DC girl. And DC has an amazing TV lineup. I haven’t seen Daredevil, I only watched a few episodes of Jessica Jones, and even though I’m in love with the 40s I haven’t seen Agent Carter. Maybe one day, but I just haven’t got there yet.

Orange is the New Black – I read the book, I liked the book. I watched the first few episodes and it never held my interest enough for me to keep watching.

What are your 5 fandoms you couldn’t get into? Do you blog or use another platform to answer the 5 Fandom Friday? If so leave me a link in the comments! I’m also thinking of doing a re-watch of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and maybe doing a multi-platform watch along. Here, on Twitter and Instagram. I’d love your thoughts on that! Stay spooky!

  1. I sometimes feel like the only person in the world who’s not in the Harry Potter fandom. Occasionally I think I’ll give it a try, and the thought of so many books, and movies, is exhausting!

Also I’m with you on the Marvel TV stuff – not sure if it’s the TV series themselves, or the fact that I’m not reading much Marvel any more.

    1. I can understand not being into Harry Potter. I was 17 when the first movie came out, and I liked it so I read the books. I still stand by my opinion the best movies are the last few when they’re much older. It’s an age thing for me I believe.

DCs TV program is just killing it right now. Four nights a week on the CW, plus Gotham!

  2. I really wanted to get into Agents of SHIELD, but I didn’t have it in me. Maybe its cast was lacking the strong, distinct personalities of each Avenger? I don’t know, but I get you when you say you feel wanting to like it out of my love for the MCU. Haha!

  3. Hahahaha these are all my favourite films/TV shows – apart from TWD. And funnyily enough Buffy was a fandom I picked as something I never got into.
